Painter Boss Paradise is an upcoming paid DLC for Castle Crashers and is named after the Painter boss. The release date is early summer 2025

This DLC is known to utilize the Steam Workshop, and features the following additions:

  • Updated weapon, character sprite, and character portrait art (toggleable).
  • Paint Junior, a new playable character that resembles the Painter boss.
  • Eight new main menu art scenes for everyone, even for those who don’t own the DLC.
  • The ability to create, share, and download customized playable characters.
    • Multiple example characters made by The Behemoth will be bundled with the DLC and immediately available upon purchase.

Example Characters[]

Since the DLC's announcement, multiple additional characters have been created by The Behemoth team as examples for the character customization feature. They can be accessed and enabled from the Painter Boss Paradise DLC menu.

Herbert is a custom character resembling the Red Painting seen in the Painter's boss fight.

Charles is a custom character resembling the Cat Painting seen in the Painter's boss fight.

Bowling Ball is a custom character with a bowling ball for a torso and a bowling pin for a head.

Softball is a custom character resembling a softball player. The large ponytail on this character showcases one of the boundaries of the custom character template, specifically the one behind the character's head.

Snail Man is a custom character resembling a humanoid snail with a spiky shell.

Mushroom is a custom character resembling a spotted red mushroom with a single large eye. Their unconventional design features a mushroom cap as the head, and the character's facial features on the torso.

Moyai is a character that showcases the boundaries of the body, with an invisible head and very large torso. It resembles a mo'ai. While beefy, the character's teeth show, and their eyes glow red.

Monkey is a custom character resembling a monkey wearing a tiny red fez. Notably, this character closes one of their eyes in one of the head angles, and has their mouth opened wide while facing sideways or attacking.

Allergic is a custom character resembling the Green Knight with an enormous head. This character was created to test and showcase the maximum head size limit of custom characters.

We used to be enemies, you know. We used to destroy the world around us. Now, we create! Let's create characters together.

So grab your paint bucket and overalls. Just replace a single image, and boom, you've made your own Castle Crashers character, and you can even share it with the world. It animates on its own like magic. In a DLC named after me, Castle Crashers Painter Boss Paradise, your only limit is your own imagination! If you are way too scared and afraid to create, that's fine! Because you can download and play as other things people have created, too.

Not only that, but this DLC has a brand new coat of paint: You'll see all weapons and playable characters redrawn from scratch, but what's even better than that? Well, you'll unlock Paint Junior, who can vanquish enemies with the very power of their imagination. Coming to Steam using the Steam Workshop. Very beautiful, very powerful. Trivia[]

  • In the trailer, similarly to the in-game Painter Boss, the Painter Boss speaks in an AI-generated voice, albeit one that sounds more human compared to the in-game counterpart. His voicelines will remain unchanged in-game.[1]
  • It's been stated that the Conehead Groom and the NPC version of Necromancer will receive graphic updates.[2]
  • A preview version of the DLC was showcased at TwitchCon San Diego in 2024.[3]
