Medusa in game.

Medusa is one of the bosses in Castle Crashers, encountered at the very end of Medusa's Lair. She is a giant gorgon with a snake tail.

Information[]

Visual Description[]

Medusa is a gorgon. Her skin depicts several different shades of green, accented by brown diamond-shaped patterns on the back. Each of her hands has four fingers ending in pointy claws, and her hair is made of brownish sage green snakes. She wears a fancy fur boot on her tail, along with gold bangles on her arms and around her neck. She also wears a pair of golden earrings. Her face has a darker green tone.

Castle Crashers[]

After fighting through the Flooded Temple, the knights end up on the path to Medusa's Lair, guarded by Snakeys and Fish Men. Unlike many other bosses, she doesn't appear to be associated with the Evil Wizard.

Battle Overview[]

Strategy[]

Get right up close to her and hold up the shield, which will protect the knights from the snapping snake on her head. It is recommended to perform a melee combo on her right after this attack, and then go back to blocking. When playing as a character with a multi-hit Splash Attack, it's also feasible to spam it in-between Medusa's attacks.

At certain times, she will release smaller snakes from her hair, which can be blocked with a shield or killed. Knocking the snakes into Medusa will deal damage to her.

Occasionally, she will move to the bottom of the screen and shoot out a petrifying glare from her eyes. Being caught in this attack turns the player to stone, and they must break out of this state before being able to move again. This attack is blockable with the shield, and it can be cancelled by hitting her with one of her snake just before it. It's possible to get behind Medusa during it and attack her from the back.

Upon Medusa's defeat, she will turn to stone. Quickly attack the newly-formed statue to reveal a new weapon, the Playdo Pasta Maker. The player has about 5 seconds to pick it up before the level automatically ends.

Trivia[]

  • In Greek mythology, Medusa was a gorgon, a chthonic monster. Making eye contact with her would turn the person to stone.[1]
    • Her obsession with beauty may be a reference to Medusa's great beauty before being transformed into a gorgon.
    • She is seen looking into a broken mirror when combing her hair. This is likely a joke by the creators, as looking into an unbroken mirror would result in her being turned to stone.
  • Medusa is one of the only confirmed female bosses in the entire game, along with the Troll Mother.
  • When first encountered, she is singing a small portion of the Flutey soundtrack.
  • Medusa is voiced by Kira Buckland (also known as Rina-Chan on Newgrounds).
  • Medusa will flinch and grunt if she is hit by one of her snakes.
  • Medusa has a similar death animation to the Frost King, both of them turning into something hard and solid.
  • When she turns someone into stone, the character becomes a heart.
    • When caught in her stare, before being turned into stone, heart particles appear around the character.
